Job summary

The Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Superintendent. Under the Superintendents supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of all golf courses related areas. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendents capacity during his/her absence.

Education and Professional Experience

  • Requires formal education in Turfgrass or Agronomy management with advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices.


  • Requires minimum 5 years working at management level in golf course maintenance or 10 years within the golf course maintenance industry with career progression and at least one other management position.


  • Requires minimum 1 year experience in both warm season turfgrass and cool season turfgrass; or 1 year experience in the transition zone.

Skills and Abilities

  • Requires a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices and methods.
  • Requires thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills in Portuguese and the English Language.
  • Ability to spot and resolve problems efficiently

Key Responsibilities

  • Organize and oversee daily preparation of the golf course and its surrounds for play following the QDL Golf Course Maintenance Standards.
  • Manage the daily maintenance and projects of all golf course related areas.
  • Assisting the Superintendent with all long-term agronomic planning.
  • Follow, implement and order materials for the annual departmental Agronomic Plan
  • Continually scout and record data to analyze all irrigation, insect, fertility and disease related issues.
  • Train and coach greenkeeping colleagues on the safe operation of all machinery and equipment.
  • Supervise calibration and application of all plant protection products.
  • Participate in the operation and maintenance of irrigation pumps and; irrigation and drainage networks.
  • Assist in all Human Resource related areas.
  • Manage accurate and complete records of all golf course maintenance related areas.
  • Assist the Superintendent in the preparation and hosting of all Golf Club related events and functions.
  • Liaise with service providers, contractors and suppliers on delivery of goods and services within QDL standards and timelines.


  • Execute and promote accident prevention program to minimize liabilities and related expenses.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned. Participate in task forces and committees as requested.
